HISTORY


Institute for psychophysiological disorders and speech pathology, "Prof. dr Cvetko Brajovic was founded in 1971. as a part of the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Serbia. The establishment of the Institute is the result of previous years enthusiastic and creative work of Professor Dr Cvetko Brajovic in improving health care of children with psychomotor, intellectual and speech and language development. In addition to the institutionalization of health care, dr Brajović set professional and methodological and theoretical foundations of the Institute. Particularly in this respect characteristic is integration of knowledge of relevant fields of medicine and psychology, pedagogy, and special education.


After establishing and 10-year management institution, dr Brajovic  inherits Prim. Dr. Milan Djurdjevic, also a pediatrician. The start of this phase of the Institute marks the expansion of activities.


Early 1981. The Institute opened a new inpatient unit with 70 beds. This new department is located near the inner urban areas, in the Lipovica forest. This is facilitated by the provision of services for patients and their parents from the country, formerly from all over Yugoslavia. This department is fully developed the concept of parallel training of parents for an extended habilitation-rehabilitation work with children in the family.


At the end of the 1988th year, based on the Agreement on Association, the Institute is integrated with the Institute for Experimental Phonetics and Speech Pathology in Belgrade. This has formed an independent health organization called the Institute for psychophysiological disorders and speech pathology, based in Belgrade, 52 Kralja Milutina St. At the same time, the previous Department is separated from the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation SR Serbia.


It should be noted that the Department during the years of its existence and work constantly promoted the organization and expert methodological and theoretical basis of his work. The processes of technical and scientific training of own personnel continually flowed in parallel the growing interest in various high educational terminations of institutes for the implementation of parts of its program in the Institute. Positive practical results of work with handicapped children were used as a basis for organizing similar units in health care facilities in Zagreb, Ljubljana, Maribor and Mostar.

Notable is the fact that in 1987. The Institute has become the seat of the Yugoslav Section of doctors Commission for Cooperation with UNICEF. This type of activity provides a special touch to Prim. Dr. Milan Djurdjevic, through the creative implementation of the joint project "Optimization of psychomotor development and promotion of mental health of children." The practical result of activities in this field is set up and gradually realizing the concept of developmental counseling at health centers in Serbia.
